Lagana Plumbing and Heating is a DBA company of Ruffalo Enterprises LLC in Newark, NY. Lagana Plumbing and Heating was established in 1948 and sold to Mitch Ruffalo in 2010. Mitch Ruffalo worked as a plumbing apprentice for Lagana’s in 1982 after he finished high school. At the time, the owner of Lagana’s was David Lagana. Mitch had the pleasure of working for David for three years. In those three years, he worked alongside one of the greatest plumbers he had ever met, Joe Greco, who ended up becoming Mitch’s father-in-law.

Our History

Faith, family, community, and strong relationships are rooted in the history of Mitch Ruffalo and his ownership of Lagana Plumbing and Heating.
During the many successful years of owning Ruffalo Appliance, David Lagana always mentioned that one day he would approach Mitch with the intention of Mitch purchasing his family business. In 2010 David Lagana sold Lagana Plumbing and Heating to Mitch Ruffalo. The door of opportunity was only just beginning there, but Mitch credits his deep community roots and relationships that led him there.
In 1986 Mitch joined his uncle, Skip Ruffalo, as a mechanic in hopes of helping him build his own family business. Skip Ruffalo founded Ruffalo Appliance, and sadly only a few years after building the business, Skip passed away in 1988. Mitch Ruffalo worked with his aunt to assume ownership and keep his uncle’s family business alive. On June 1st, 1989, Mitch Ruffalo became full owner of Ruffalo Appliance.

Lagana Heating & Cooling

In a similar fashion, a few years later Mitch was approached by two brothers that owned a small family HVAC business in Geneva, NY. Tim and Jeff Coutlee were very passionate over the relationships they built in their community as well. They approached Mitch because they felt he had similar values. Mitch and the Coutlee brothers formed a great relationship and in 2016 Mitch Ruffalo officially purchased Coutlee and Son’s Heating and Air Conditioning under the Lagana Plumbing and Heating name. This would give Lagana Plumbing and Heating a strong presence and customer base in Geneva, NY. Since then, Lagana Plumbing and Heating has grown every year, and the deep family roots that make up a strong base have contributed to a culture of integrity, quality, and teamwork.
